“Drill rappers are unique, the flow is different, the expression is pure” – PSIV

Drill music has not only taken form in Nigeria, it’s also gradually seeping it’s way into mainstream as it continues to surmount media attention. Nigerian artistes are delving into this new sound and we’ve got PSIV amongst others at the forefront championing this genre.

PSIV (pronounced PS-FOUR) is “an encompassing creative, law graduate and entrepreneur” who also loves bringing ideas to life, he tells us in a recent Tweetchat with him.

Being a drill head since its early days in Chicago and dedicated to seeing that “drill music redefines the Hip Hop space in Nigeria”, he ushers us into the ‘gangland’ with his debut project in form of an EP titled “Welcome To The 234” in which he wholesomely apprehends and conveys the entirety of being a Nigerian while delivering songs to bop to.

“Drill is a very energetic genre and the 234 is a very charged up place so it’s the perfect match”

PSIV

At the age of 9, he started recording music and by 10, he could perform as well. Starting out as a conventional rapper and evolving over time, he got to understand that “music is a universal language and genres are only a vehicle for the art”. Drawing inspirations from life and experiences, he mentions that you could know all about him when you listen to his songs.

PSIV credits music producers as the vital part of any sound but reminds us not to neglect the input of the artiste who not only writes but performs the song after I asked about his thoughts on a tweet that insinuated that producers did the most job in drill music.

“Drill rappers are unique, the flow is different, the expression is pure. It all works together”

As he roots for everyone in the #234Drill community, he makes us understand that time and patience is needed at the start of everything new but pushing through notwithstanding is all that matters. He also wants to believe that every other creatives has this in mind as well.

He’s got interests in working with Burna Boy who he says was a part of the influences on his growth as an artiste, Rema who he loves his sound and someday, Jae5 and Mike Dean. “After OT BOP” by NSG featuring Backroad Gee is currently rocking his playlists as well as every single track on his new project.
